Park Information

Rating: ★★★★★(5/5) - Must Visit

This is the first state park on the North Shore as you drive north on Minnesota Highway 61, a glimpse of the spectacular scenery awaiting you in this region. Also functioning as a highway rest area, this is one of the few state parks that don't require a vehicle fee for short term visits! Hike to five waterfalls or have a picnic overlooking Lake Superior. Stay overnight in the main campground or at the group campsite.

Gooseberry Falls is obviously the main hiking destination, and wheelchair accessible trails lead to overlooks of the Upper and Middle Falls. Escape the crowds by heading to Fifth Falls, a smaller waterfall upriver from the main falls. The northeast corner of the park has a network of shared mountain biking/hiking trails with hilly terrain and a couple overlooks. The Superior Hiking Trail travels through the park for those looking a longer adventure.
