One of the few Minnesota State Parks you can visit without paying a vehicle fee, this North Shore park has tremendous rapids and waterfalls. The Temperance River and Lake Superior shore are two sights you shouldn't miss. Hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing are the best ways to enjoy the park and you can also rock climb at Carlton Peak or kayak on Lake Superior. Stay at one of two developed campgrounds, one of the cart-in sites, or one of the multiple backpacking sites on the Superior Hiking Trail.
This park has some of the finest hiking trails on the North Shore. Take the Hiking Club Trail for an easier hike along the Temperance River to see all the waterfalls and rapids in the park. For a longer adventure, the Superior Hiking Trail runs through the park. Carlton Peak was recently added to the park, and you can day hike the peak via the Superior Hiking Trail for amazing Lake Superior views.
