Park Information

The most famous Lake Superior destination in Wisconsin, the Apostle Islands, are a Midwestern treasure. Protecting 21 islands total, there are so many beautiful sights to see, including 8 historic lighthouses. 19 of the islands have campsites as well as one campsite on the mainland (accessible options are available), and their facilities vary from developed with picnic tables, raised tent pads, and fire rings to primitive backcountry camping in designated zones.

Although mainly known as a kayaking and camping destination, many of the Apostle Islands have trails. In addition, the mainland hosts the approximately 7 mile long Lakeshore Trail where you can view the famous sea caves from above. In winters with ideal conditions, fantastic ice formations form in these caves and you can hike on top the frozen Lake Superior to view these colorful natural works of art.

The sea caves may not photograph well, but they are impressive in person.
