Savanna Portage State Forest, Minnesota

Last Updated: August 21st, 2018

Park Information

Savanna Portage State Forest surrounds the state park of the same name. The terrain here is hilly and covered in mixed hardwood and coniferous forest. This land is managed for the purpose of forestry, so you may find logging areas during your visit. Camping is available at the Hay Lake Campground or in the nearby state park.

Almost all of the forest's trails are located within the Remote Lake Solitude Area a short distance from the state park. These trails are designed for cross country skiing but can be hiked in the summer; in addition these trails function as hunter walking trails during the appropriate season, so be aware of that when hiking here. Maintenance is minimal, so be prepared to encounter overgrown or washed out trails. If you're looking for a more adventurous and quiet experience than a state park, this is the place to go.
