Westwood Hills Nature Center, Minnesota

Park Information

Just outside of Minneapolis in the suburb of St. Louis Park, this park is an outdoor learning center ideal for families with children. With an interpretive center with educational exhibits and an outdoor area featuring cages with native birds, this is an excellent place to learn more about the environments and wildlife in the area. You can explore four different native landscapes via a short trail network: hardwood forest, pine forest, marsh, and prairie. Dogs aren't allowed here, and the park closes at sunset. Its location in the middle of the Twin Cities metro means that it can be quite crowded on nice days. This combined with the noisy highway and surrounding tall buildings makes this as far cry from the wilderness, but its educational aspects and family friendly environment are reasons to add this destination to your list.
